The life of a Bludger
Well we've bought a car, picture and details below. It cost us $3900 which if it doesn't break down will turn out to be a bargain. I'm sure many of you will be turning your noses up at it being an automatic but it's the future - I've seen it!
An insight into the local language. Rather than greeting someone like we do back home with 'Alright?', the Australian equivalent is 'Howyergoin?' (to be said as one word), this isn't a genuine inquiry and shouldn't be answered in any detail but merely with 'orright'.
A few more are:
daggy = uncool
dacked = to have your pants pulled down to your ankles in public
grog shop = offlicence
rubbety = pub (think about it..!?)
stubbie holder - mans greatest invention for keeping your bottle of beer cold
Now for something I'm sure everyone is interested in - a word about the beer. Not surprisingly they've got their beer art pretty finely tuned over here. The pubs keep their beer pots in the fridge so that they're nice and cold and the actual draft taps themselves are cooled to such a degree that the pumps are incrusted in ice. All in all this makes for a 'very cold beer' which as we all know is the key to a 'very nice beer'. The negatives being that in most places you can't get Pints just Schooners (about 2/3 of a pint so more wear on shoe leather) and there is no bitter.
The wildlife is abundant here even in the middle of winter, we have Possums on the roof, Geckos running around the walls, Frogs in the yard and an array of Skinks and Bluetongue lizards which flee whenver you walk up the driveway - still haven't seen a spider though.
Well, I'm off for a few Schooners of VB....
